St. Basil the Great |
Saint Basil the Great, patron saint of St. Basil Parish, was an honored Christian, priest, bishop, and theologian of the early Church. Living from 330 to 379 A.D., Saint Basil and his brother, Saint Gregory of Nyssa, and their colleague, Saint Gregory Nazianzen, worked to explain our Christian faith in Jesus of Nazareth as the Incarnate Son of God. These 'Cappadocian Fathers' also gave Christians a more developed understanding of the Holy Trinity of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Saint Basil the Great is one of the most honored Eastern Fathers of the Church, and his faith, holiness, writings, and life remain an inspiration for all Christian people. |
St. Basil the Great memorial day is January 2nd. |
"The bread which you do not use is the bread of the hungry; the garment hanging in your wardrobe is the garment of him who is naked; the shoes that you do not wear are the shoes of the one who is barefoot; the money that you keep locked away is the money of the poor; the acts of charity that you do not perform are so many injustices that you commit." ~St. Basil the Great |
